  • Dietitians are trained in food and nutrition for illness and health. Registered Dietitian (RD) and Licensed Dietitian (LD) are universal nutrition credentials which are only granted after specific education and training is completed. The (RD) credential lets you know that that person has been trained to help you learn a medically prescribed diet or provide nutrition guidance for your specific needs. A dietitian may also have additional expertise or specialize in certain areas, such as eating disorders, pediatric nutrition or sports nutrition. In general a dietitian should answer your questions about food and eating and help you make the best choices for your situation.

  • People are often confused as to why they might see a dietitian or convinced that they will be put on a "Diet". Unless a medically prescribed diet is indicated for a specific condition or illness a dietitian's role is to help their client learn more useful eating strategies. Some common reasons why a person might seek help from a dietitian are when there is much concern over what to eat to be healthy and balanced, when a child goes beyond the "picky eater" phase or when the teen athlete can't stay at a healthy weight or perform at their best level. These are just a few of the reasons on how a dietitian can help. Unsure that a dietitian is the way to go? Feel free to call and describe your situation and the best course of action will be provided to you.

  • The initial evaluation will last for one hour covering an in depth introduction on both of your histories and why the meeting was scheduled. Laura will take a medical and nutrition history from you or your child as well as weight/growth history or any significant changes. Once these are reviewed we will prioritize as to what needs attention most and structure a plan on how to best approach this. Some education is provided during the initial evaluation however, education will occur on a routine basis. Laura will address specific concerns and/or goals of the client at this time and develop a plan for these. After the initial evaluation, you both will discuss and decide if you should continue to work together, along with when you should return for follow up.

  • Laura does not accept insurance as payment but will provide a coded super bill so the individual can process their own claim for possible reimbursement. Payment is due upon service. Check, cash and credit cards are accepted.
